The Undertaker hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since his undefeated streak was broken at WrestleMania 30, and his loss to Brock Lesnar might have been the last match of the Phenom’s career. While there has been speculation that The Undertaker would face Sting at WrestleMania 31, the former face of WCW could take on a different WWE superstar at the biggest pay-per-view of 2015.
According to multiple reports, Rob Feinstein, RF Video President and founder of Ring of Honor, claims the plans are for Sting and Triple H to have a match. Sting made his first appearance in a WWE ring at Survivor Series, giving the COO a Scorpion Death Drop, helping Team Cena get the win to put The Authority out of power.
“From what I been hearing I think Undertaker is done and the plans are for Sting and HHH at Mania,” Feinstein said. “But anything can change but that is what I have been told.”
The idea of Sting and The Undertaker finally meeting at WrestleMania has been talked about for years. As wrestlers continued to switch sides during the Monday Night Wars, the two men remained loyal to their respective companies. After Vince McMahon bought WCW, Sting went on to wrestle in TNA for a decade, and he may have come to WWE a year too late.
There has been no official word from The Undertaker or WWE about what’s next for the Deadman, but the result of his match with Lesnar has left his future as a wrestler in doubt. Not only did The Undertaker have his undefeated WrestleMania streak snapped on April 6, but he was badly injured in the match and taken to the hospital.
With his WrestleMania record standing at 21-1 and his 50th birthday approaching, there is less incentive for The Undertaker to return to the ring. It's possible that he could skip WrestleMania in 2015 and return for a match the following year.
The Undertaker’s loss at WrestleMania 30 might have been the most shocking result in WWE history. During Monday’s interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin on the WWE Network, McMahon stood behind his decision, which he admitted, surprised The Undertaker.
“It was a shock to everybody,” McMahon told Austin. “That’s on me…those decisions aren’t easy to make, but you have to make difficult decisions sometimes. That’s my job to do that, and I think I made the right call at the right time. Coming into this year’s WrestleMania, I don’t think Brock Lesnar could be any hotter than he will be, reminding everyone of what happened of Brock Lesnar breaking The Undertaker’s streak.”
The Undertaker’s first appearance on WWE TV in 2014 was in late February, to begin his feud with Lesnar. Prior to showing up on that “Monday Night Raw,” he had been away from WWE for 10 months.
