UFC Fight Night 65 Complete Results

ufc fight night 65The card, which features a heavyweight headliner between Mark Hunt and Stipe Miocic, takes place at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Ben Nguyen (14-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) vs. Alptekin Ozkilic (9-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC)
Round 1 – Nguyen takes the center and kicks the legs. Punches traded, and Nguyen lands a nice right hand. Ozkilic answers back with a flurry. Ozkilic shoots in for a takedown, but Nguyen stops that effort and counters with quick punches. Ozkilic wobbled and hits the deck. Nguyen follows to the floor with more shots. Ozkilic crawls up and avoids a guillotine attempt before getting to his feet and scoring an outside trip, earning him top position. Ozkilic controlling from the top, but he’s not scoring much, as Nguyen remains active from his back. Nguyen gets to a seated position and eats a few knees to the body but crawls to his feet. Nguyen back to work with his hands. Ozkilic is looking to answer, but Nguyen is the aggressor. Good head movement from Nguyen as he slips his opponent’s strikes. One minute left. Ozkilic with a crisp two-punch combination in his best punches so far. Ozkilic just misses on a takedown. Nguyen scrambles away and kicks the legs. Ozkilic starting to find some success with his counters, but Nguyen answers back lands a big left that drops Ozkilic. Nguyen pounces with more punches and earns the finish just before the bell. Round 1 – O’Reilly kicks the leg to start. Grujic moves forward and scores with a trip, but they pop right back to the feet. O’Reilly pushes his opponent to the fence, but Grujic circles off. O’Reilly gets his hands inside and reverses again before changing levels and looking for the takedown. Grujic answers and looks to grind away on the inside. O’Reilly circles off again as they battle, and he scores a takedown, but Grujic right back to his feet. They continue to battle in the clinch. Knees traded. Grujic breaks away and punches, but they move quickly back to the clinch. O’Reilly with another takedown. Two minutes left. Few quick shots from the top as O’Reilly looks to establish position. Half-guard for Grujic. O’Reilly looks to attack with a kimura. He can’t quite torque it, but he uses the hold to advance his position. Grujic with a mad scramble to avoid damage, and he eventually rolls back to his feet. They finish with an O’Reilly takedown. MMAjunkie gives the first to O’Reilly, 10-9.
Round 2 – Both fighters come out swinging, but they quickly come together in the clinch. Grujic works in a few powerful left hands as they dirty box. He pulls away, and both men fire some heavy shots. O’Reilly wants a takedown but can’t get it. Grujic punishes him with big punches. They’re fighting at close quarters, but Grujic is definitely getting the best of it. Grujic controls from the outside. O’Reilly briefly switches, but Grujic puts him back against the cage. big punches, and both men look tired. O’Reilly scores with a front kick to the face and then drives in for a takedown. Grujic scrambles up, and O’Reilly just misses a big spinning elbow. Two minutes remain. Gut check time. Grujic goes back to work with his punches on the inside. Both men swinging and landing. Big shots from both. It’s not the most technical work, but they’re gutting it out. Grujic backs away and scores a big counter left. Flurry from Grujic, and he scores with a late takedown. He’s on the back, looking for the choke, but the bell sounds. Fun round, and MMAjunkie gives it to Grujic, 10-9.
Round 3 – Spilled ice in Grujic’s corner slows the start of the final round. Grujic quickly gets inside, where he’s been very successful. O’Reilly tries to get some space, but Grujic keeps him tight. O’Reilly gets off the fence, but Grujic turns and pulls away. Both men are tired, but the fight would seem to be hanging in the balance. O’Reilly controlling the position from the outside right now. Knees traded. Grujic circles off the cage. Two minutes remain. O’Reilly with a takedown. Could be a big moment. Grujic settles into guard, but he needs to get off his back. O’Reilly with a few short punches from the top. One minute left, and Grujic crawls to his feet. O’Reilly still controlling from the outside. O’Reilly happy to hold him against the fence. Time winding down. Another takedown for O’Reilly should seal it. He finishes the fight on top, and MMAjunkie gives O’Reilly the final round, 10-9, awarding him the fight 29-28.

Round 1 – Currran pushes forward and kicks the legs. Chambers slips on a kick but gets back to her feet. Curran with a big right hands, and they move int o the clinch. Curran with an outside trip, but she can’t get on top. Fast pace to start, and it’s Chambers who scores a trip. Open guard for Curran. She punches from her back. Chambers stands, and Curran scrambles up. Leaping knee misses for Curran, but she gets inside and gets a takedown. She’s active with punches from the top and pins Chambers against the cage. Chambers scrambles to her feet, and Curran backs away. Curran with a few crisp left hands and a knee inside.Chambers returning fire, but Curran is the busier fighter. Punches traded. Curran landing the bigger shots right now, and she drives into the clinch. Chambers defends well and turns off the cage. Chambers wants a takedown. She misses on the first effort but gets it on the follow. Curran won’t stay on the floor, and she gets to her feet. Crowd cheering fro Chambers, but Curran the more offensive fighter. Short left hands from Curran as they work in tight. Flurry from Curran to close. MMAjunkie gives Cuirran the first, 10-9.
Round 2 – Leg kicks traded to start. It’s still Curran walking forward. Chambers trying to answer, but she’s a touch behind. Curran stringing punches together. High kick from Chambers scores. Curran’s corner asking for her to sit down on her punches. Curran has no fear of her opponent’s strikes at all, and she’s standing in the pocket and firing away. Chambers is fading. Halfway through the round. Chambers goes to the fence and covers. She is firing off a few kicks, but she can’e put anything together. Curran catches a kick and trips Chambers to the floor. Curran quickly rushes to capitalize. She jumps on top with punches. Left hands come in. Chambers gets to a knee and then to her feet, but Curran right there to rifle off punches. Curran pouring on the offense. Curran catches a high kick and looks for a takedown. Chambers threatens with an armbar in a smooth little transition, but Curran keeps her hands clasped until the bell. MMAjunkie gives Curran the round, 10-9.
Round 3 – Curran again out quickly and looking to attack. She’s working her jab and bringing the right hand behind it. Chambers on defense, looking to counter, but she just can’t match the volume coming from her opponent. Chambers does score with a nice right hand, and Curran drives in for the takedown. Chambers immediately turns to attack the left arm as she hits the deck. She steps over and looks to get an angle on the arm. Curran tries to slam out of it but winds up giving her opponent some more room. Chamber trying hard to yank the arm away from the body, and there’s a lot of time left. Curran remains cam, but Chambers adjusts her position and gets deep on the armbar. Chambers in a good position, and Curran truing to stay stacked. Curran lifts and can’t pull free, and Chambers gets the arm extended. Submission win on the comeback. Wow.

Round 1 – Scott with a sharp jab to start. Andrews kicks the legs as he circles on the outside. Andrews slips a punch and scores with a nice right hand. Andrews rushes forward but misses on a takedown. Scott drives him to the fence. Andrews circles off and scores with an uppercut as Scott holds a Thai clinch. Scott hits the deck but pops back up. He changes levels and scores a takedown, though Andrews gets immediately back to his feet. Scott looks the stronger man in the clinch, and he drives in some left hands. Andrews trapped against the fence. He lands an uppercut and a right hand to the temple that drops Scott again. Scott immediately back to his feet, pressing again from the outside. Andrews stops a takedown and looks for a guillotine. Scott goes to the floor. Andrews adjusting his angle and hoping for the squeeze. Not there. Scott crawls back to his feet. He continues to work from the clinch. Short right for Scott. Andrews goes to the body. Time winding down. Scott flurries to close, though Andrews lands a takedown at the bell. MMAjunkie gives the first to Andrews, 10-9.
Round 2 – Andrews jabs to open. He kicks the legs. Scott has the center, and he’s answering wit a few strong lefts, as well. Scott with a nice uppercut to left hook combo. Andrews answers with that crisp right to the temple. Big shots from both. Scott seems content to trade on the feet so far. His jab is landing. Both me just miss big power shots. Andrews comes alive a bit, but he backs up to the cage when he misses. Scott’s left hand looks good again. Uppercut for Scott. He’s gaining steam. Andrews squinting, complaining of a poke. Referee slow to step in, but he does finally call time and bring in the doctor. Replay seems to show it was a clean punch, but we fight on after the break. Scott presses forward and sends an off-balance Andrews to the floor. Scott jumps on tap. He’s heavy on top. Scott driving in the forearm to the neck. One minute left. Andrews trying to scramble to his feet. Scott holds him down and delivers big right hands. Andrews rolls to his knees. Scott circles around an attacks the neck. Smooth transition, and Scott is on the guillotine. He falls to his back and squeezes. Final seconds, but Andrews has to tap.

Round 1 – Rawlings out quick and looking to strike. Ellis scores with a right hand and gets a quick takedown. Rawlings tries to turn and attack the leg. Ellis gets through it and nearly moves to side control. Rawlings keeps half-guest. Ellis turns and rolls for the armbar. She nearly gets it, but Rawlings counters well and is now on top. Tense moments to start for Rawlings, but eh’s now in her opponent’s guard. Right hands lands for Rawlings. Ellis crawls up and missed on a trip, to Rawlings stays on top and is able to land a few more right hands. Rawlings with some big shots. Ellis crawls to her feet, and Rawlings attacks with a standing guillotine. She can’t get the angel, so she lets go. They trade punches before Ellis drops for a takedown. Rawlings defends, and they continue to punch away. Rawlings’ right hand is scoring points. She works knees from the clinch. She’s driving Ellis against the fence and roughing her up. Ellis falls to the floor, and Rawlings follows. She’s on the back and works in the choke. Ellis tries to tuck the chin, but she’s stuck and has to tap.

Round 1 – Kelly takes the center and tries to push inside but eats a few counter shots from Alvey. Alvey with a big right hand, and Kelly is hurt. Uppercut scores. Kelly hits the deck, and Alvey rushes forward. More punches. Kelly trying to get up, but Alvey is non-stop. Fight over. Quick finish.

Round 1 – Noke takes the center as Webb moves on the outside. Webb tries to push inside, but Noke shoves him away. Noke is the bigger man, and he’s trying to keep distance. He shrugs aside another takedown. Noke kicks the leg and just pulls away from a big counter left. Webb non-stop with his movement. He’s short on a spinning kick. Noke has a leaping kick blocked. Noke yet to really commit. Webb scores with a straight that wobbles Noke. Noke checks a kick. Webb the busier fighter. He drives in for a takedown, but Noke balances on one leg as he retreats to the fence. Webb adjusts and tries for a leg lock. It looks briefly tight, but he gives up on it and moves back to his feet. Noke lands a jab. Noke kicks the legs but eats a right hand counter. Noke with another jab, but Webb answers with a takedown and moves to top position. One minute left. Webb turns to attack the neck. Noke defends it but Webb gets to the back. Noke battles the hands, keeping his back safe. He rolls to safety, but Webb is all over him, looking to attack the leg. Round ends there, and MMAjunkie gives it to Webb, 10-9.
Round 2 – Noke takes the center, but he eats a big counter hook and falls to the floor. Webb rushes to follow, but Noke recovers quickly and tries to tie things up underneath. Webb again on the attack, but Noke pulls free and postures to strike. He kicks the legs a bit. Webb stuck on his back, and Noke is trying mount some serious offense. Short elbows traded. Noke stands and again kicks the legs. Webb trying to get enough rook to stand, but Noke presses back down on top. Webb again scrambles and winds up getting to his feet before tossing Noke to the floor and taking top position. Webb seizing back the momentum, but he needs to score some points. Noke bleeding from the nose. Noke kicks him away and gets back to his feet. Noke stuffs a takedown. One minute left. Noke scores with his hands. Noke stuffs another takedown. Webb lands late. Close round, but MMAjunkie leans slightly toward Webb, 10-9. Very close.
Round 3 – Noke again takes the center. Webb not moving quite as much to start. He digs to the body.Webb rushes for a takedown, but Noke easily pushes it away. Noke kicks the legs. Big punches land for both fighters. Webb scores with a nice right hand as Noke walks forward. Webb with a left. Webb is faster with his hands, but Noke is the one walking froward. Halfway through the final round. Noke holds the center, but Webb is moving well. He fires big, looping punches. Time winding down. Webb with two right hands that land. he seems the fresher fighter. Webb shoots in, but Noke pushes him away. Beg leg kick sense Webb to the floor, but he pops back up. Less than a minute. Fight could be habging in the balance. Crowd wants to see both men pushing. Leg kicks traded. Webb slips a punch. He’s cruising right now but should probably be turning things up a bit. Left hand just misses for Webb. Noke misses a high kick at the bell. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Webb, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27, though scores of 29-28 wouldn’t surprise, honestly either way. Close in the final two rounds.

Round 1 – Hioki takes the center. Hooker circling right. Hioki kicks the leg. Hioki with a right to the body, and he checks a Hooker kick. Hioki kicks the body. Hooker lands a stiff left. Hioki lands a nice counter left and lifts his hands to celebrate. Hooker wants to box, but Hioki looks pretty sharp on the feet so far. Hioki complains of an eye poke, and we take a quick break Doctors come in to take a look. Brief stop, and we fight on. Hioki kicks the body. He’s the sharper striker so far. Hooker moving well, and he’s starting to pick up his pace a bit. Hioki continues to kick the body. His left hand is sharp, too. Two minutes left. Another left for Hioki. Right hand. Hioki drives in and scores an outside trip, setting up on top of Hooker. Mount for Hioki. Hooker trying to use the cage to create some space and reverse, but he can’t turn over. A second effort does score the sweep, but he stands and backs away. Less than a minute. Hioki catches a high kick and pushes Hooker to the floor. He stands, and Hioki settles for a bodylock. He moves around to the back, where he finishes the round. MMAjunkie gives the first to Hioki, 10-9.
Round 2 – Hooker lands a left hand to start, but Hioki is there to answer. Hioki again has the center. Hooker fires a high kick, but Hioki catches it and pushes him to the floor. Hooker snuck in a few punches, but he’s on his back again. Hooker with butterfly guard. Hioki tries to advance to mount but winds up backing away. Hooker gets up, and Hioki tries to take his back but can’t secure the position. They break apart and reset. Hooker trying to step up the pace a bit, and he lands with a push kick. Hioki answers with an uppercut. Hioki’s left continues to land, as well. Hioki shoots in, but Hooker stops it. Hooker starting to press a bit. Hioki countering well, and he kicks to the body. Punches exchanged a bit, as both men looking to strike. Hooker stuffs another takedown. Hioki with a few uppercuts and a kick to the body. Hioki punches to the body. Hooker scores flush with a high kick. Right hand scores, too. Hioki is hurt and Hooker scores again with a right. Hioki is out. Nasty finish.

Round 1 – Vick looking to use his range early, but Matthews jumps forward and scores with a crisp left hand. Matthews presses inside and wraps the body. Vick sprawls well against the cage. Matthews not backing away. He does pull Vick to a knees. Vick pops back up, so Matthews grabs him, lifts him in the air and slams him to the floor. Vick cralws up, so Matthews backs away. Matthews throwing big power hooks, but Vick staying away as they reset. Matthews patient as he bounces on his toes. Big right hand just misses. Vick not really able to put anything together thus far. Both land a bit as they trade. Crowd starts clapping for Matthews, and he claps along with them. Matthews pressing a bit. He’s throwing with power but yet to land flush. Spinning strike from Matthews misses, and he complains of an eye poke. Doctors come in to take a look, but we fight on. Less than a minute. Matthews again pressing with power punches, but he just misses. Vick tries a flying knee, but Matthews stuffs him and presses him to the fence. Vick grabs a guillotine and falls to the floor. It’s tight. Matthews scrambling and looking to get free, but he’s trapped. Final 10 seconds, but he can’t hold on. Matthews taps.

Sean O’Connell (16-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Anthony Perosh (15-8 MMA, 5-5 UFC)
Round 1 – O’Connell pumps a jab and just slips a big right hand. Perosh lands a nice right, but O’Connell comes back with a flurry. O’Connell holding the center as Perosh slips along the cage. O’Connell is all over him, and Perosh is wobbling. Perosh covers up against the fence, and O’Connell just unleashes a flurry. Not all the shots are getting through, but O’Connell is landing, and Perosh is wobbling. O’Connell isn’t going to stop with the offense. Referee Greg Kleynjans decides he’s seen enough.

Round 1 – Whittaker kicks the lead leg to start. He fires a front kick to the body, as well. Tavares with a right hand and a kick to the legs. Whittaker answers with a crisp right. Left hand for Whittaker scores. Big hook lands, and Tavares is hurt. He tries to answer back with a brawl, but he gets caught with another hook and hits the floor. Whittaker pounces with heavy punches, and Tavares is out. Vicious.

Round 1 – Hunt with an early low kick. Miocic tries to pump his jab. Miocic with a takedown, but Hunt scrambles up and pushes him away. Left hand lands for Miocic. Straight comes behind it. Stiff shots from Miocic. Hunt misses a big right hand. Jabs traded. Miocic kicks the legs. Hunt with a short hook that scores. Two punches from Miocic. He’s scoring with straight shots while Hunt throws looping blows. Counter right for Miocic. Miocic putting together combinations. Hunt walking through them, looking for the big power shot. Crowd cheering Hunt’s name. Miocic dips down and picks the leg, immediately getting to top position. Hunt with half-guard. Two minutes left. Miocic trying to work in a few short elbows. Hunt trying to tie things up, and the crowd is getting restless. They want a brawl, which would certainly favor Hunt. Miocic getting in a few punches here and there, but he’s not getting a ton of damage. He finds some space to land right hands and a few hammerfists. Miocic briefly looks to attack the left arm but lets it go. Hunt scrambles back to his feet in the final seconds. He fires a haymaker that misses. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Miocic, 10-9.



Round 2 – Touch of gloves to start the second. Miocic pumps his jab. Hunt just misses a big left hand. Miocic’s hands a little low. He seems very confident right now, and Hunt is breathing heavy. Miocic pressing forward and landing right hands. Hunt covering up and looking for big counters.

Miocic staying tight. He slips a punch and easily scores another takedown. Hunt turns to his knees, looking to escape. Miocic tries to get to his back. Hunt using the cage to prevent Miocic from getting the back, but he’s eating punches in the meantime. Hunt finally crawls back to his feet, but Miocic just resumes the straight punches. Two bug right hands land. Hunt showing his legendary chine, and he does land a big left hook. Miocic with a Thai clinch. He’s pressing but has to be careful. Hunt’s face swelling already. Miocic just teeing off. He moves into the clinch. He backs away with a minute left. Hunt’s right eye is a mess. Miocic presses in again. He backs away and just misses a n uppercut before missing on a takedown. Hunt looks exhausted, but he’s so hard to finish. He swings hard at the bell and lands a few shots, but this round has been all Miocic, 10-9.

Round 3 – Miocic with a stiff jab to start. Hunt just misses a big leaping left. Miocic ducks into another takedown. He’s on top right away. Crowd doesn’t like it, but Miocic knows better than to play with fire. Miocic posts and lands a few punches. Hunt trying to keep him tight, but Miocic lifts up and lands strikes. Elbows and forearms grindign away on Hunt’s face. He tries to turn to his side and get to the cage. Miocic teeing off, wanting the stoppage. Hunt trapped against the fence, and referee John Sharp is watching closely. Hunt does get to a knee, but Miocic stands to hold him down. Short elbows from Miocic. Hunt pushes him away and gets back to his feet, but he immediately misses a huge hook, and Miocic is back on top and pressing him to the floor. Non-stop punches from Miocic. Hunt now doing anything. Hunt absolutely trapped. The punches aren’t power shots, but they’re relentless. Miocic in mount. He may have punches himself out a bit. Hunt trying to turn and rise.Hunt’s face a bloody mess. Miocic continues to punch away, but Hunt turns to his knees. Hunt somehow survives until the bell. MMAjunkie gives it to Miocic, 10-8.


Round 4 – Hunt has been absolutely destroyed, and his right eye looks closed, but he’s trying to land that one big shot. Miocic with an immediate takedown, and he’s back on top. Hunt with half-guard, but Miocic is sitting heavy and driving in punches and forearms. Hunt trying to punch from his back. He’s rolling to the side and trying to find a way up, but Miocic is just to strong on top. Miocic firing right hands to the body. Hunt tries to get up, but Miocic pushes him back down. Crowd wants the action on the feet. Hunt gets to a knee, but Miocic turns and threatens to take the back. Hunt gets up anyway. Miocic lands a left hand before backing away. Short elbow inside for Miocic. He presses into the clinch. Hunt is a warrior, but he’s getting destroyed. Miocic doing everything he can to score points, but Hunt just won’t go away. Round 5 – Doctors come in to take a look, but Hunt is allowed to continue. Miocic immediately drives forward for a takedown. Miocic still firing in short punches. Hunt turns to his knees. Crowd begging for a standup, but Miocic doing enough to stay busy. Hunt is trapped, and the referee comes in to take a closer look. Hunt has no way out, and this fight is finally waved off.
