Bellator 139 complete results for 26 June 2015

bellator 139Bellator 139 complete results for 26 June 2015 are here:Kongo negated just about any offense the former heavyweight champion could bring to the table in a fairly easy-looking unanimous decision win in the Bellator 139 main event.
Bellator 139 took place at Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Kan. The main card aired on Spike TV.
Kongo (24-10-2 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) fired off a right hand early, then another. Volkov (24-6 MMA, 6-3 BMMA) tied him up and landed a pair of knees that pushed Kongo back to the outside. The taller Volkov landed a pair of body kicks, then again tried to push forward with a kick, trying to cut the cage off from Kongo. Two minutes in, Kongo dropped for a takedown, and twice tried to scoop Volkov up. Finally, on the third try, he got it after a 30-second battle. Kongo put a bunch of pressure on the former champ on the ground, drilling him with elbows and cutting him open.
The second round was an easy one for Kongo. He quickly scooped in and took Volkov down, where he kept him the whole round. In fact, Copmustrike reported Kongo was ahead 60-0 in ground strikes after two frames. And in Round 3, it was the same thing. Kongo immediately picked Volkov up for an easy takedown and went to work with short punches and elbows.
After a standup from referee John McCarthy, Kongo dropped down for the takedown again – and Volkov briefly threatened with a guillotine choke. But Kongo was way too slippery to be too worried about it. He popped out and finished the fight on top.
Kongo swept the judges’ scorecards with a trio of 30-27 scores.
Kongo won for the second straight time and third time in four fights. Volkov now has dropped two straight.
Illegal knee costs Rickels likely win over Alessio
David Rickels was on his way to an impressive TKO victory when one wrong move cost him. When he landed what was eventually ruled an unintentional illegal knee against John Alessio, the lightweight co-main event was ruled a no-contest.
The pace was slow early. The fighters clinched up on the fence. But then Rickels (16-3 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) landed and seemed to hurt Alessio (35-17 MMA, 1-1 BMMA), and he took advantage by firing a flurry at him and wobbling him. He then landed a pair of knees. But somehow, Alessio managed to work his way through it for the time being.
But around the 2:45 mark, Rickels started punishing Alessio along the fence. The Canadian covered up and went to the canvas. Rickels went for the finish – and landed a left knee flush to Alessio’s temple while he was grounded. It was an illegal shot – and one that came perhaps seconds before referee Rob Hinds was about to stop the fight.
Alessio was given time to recover from the knee, and when Alessio said he couldn’t continue, the fight was over. Hinds ruled the knee was accidental, making the fight a no-contest instead of a disqualification. The crowd – a home-friendly one for Kansas’ Rickels – booed the decision.
Hisaki Kato knocks Joe Schilling stiff
If you didn’t know who Hisaki Kato was before Friday, you certainly will now. The Bellator newcomer destroyed standout kickboxer Joe Schilling with a Superman punch knockout in the second round.
Schilling kicked high about a minute in, then went back to it after switching stances. Kato tried to fire back and landed a left hand counter, then dropped down for a takedown 90 seconds in. Schilling tried to work his way out, but was up against the fence. Schilling did well defensively, but couldn’t get a triangle choke moving before recovering to full guard. With 90 seconds left in the first, Schilling nearly got the triangle, but Kato slipped it. Schilling gave his back late in the round to get back to his feet, but then had to fend off a big flurry from Kato to close the frame. It was sort of a sign of things to come.
It didn’t take Kato long in the second to make himself a superstar. He fired off a Superman punch with his left hand, and it drilled Schilling flush. Schilling’s eyes rolled back, he went stiff, and dropped the canvas. Kato landed one more punch before referee Rob Hinds came in for the official stoppage 34 seconds into the round.
Kato (5-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) picked up a win in his Bellator debut. Schilling (2-5, 1-2 BMMA), whose own Bellator debut this past November featured a highlight-reel knockout win, now has dropped two straight.
Curran snaps skid with decision win over Sanchez
Emmanuel Sanchez made a game of it at times, but an effective takedown game and counter-striking attack helped Pat Curran snap a two-fight skid. Curran picked up a unanimous decision win, sweeping the judges’ scorecards with a trio of 30-27 scores.
Sanchez tried to walk Curran down early and worked kicks to the legs. Then he kicked up high, but had it blocked. Curran fired off a fast high kick that just missed. Curran caught Sanchez with a right hand 100 seconds in, but took his time trying to follow up on it. Midway through, he landed another solid right counter. Sanchez continued to try to stalk Curran down and even tried a Superman punch. But Curran continued to move just out of the way of Sanchez’s biggest efforts. When Sanchez tried to get tricky with kicks, dancing around, Curran lit him up with a combination that rocked him on his feet with a minute left.
Early in the second, both fighters threw punches at the same time and butted heads – and Sanchez wound up with a deep gash above his left eye. The doctor looked at it and let Sanchez continue. Thirty seconds in, Curran dropped down for an easy ankle pick to a takedown and tried to jump to mount. But that allowed Sanchez back to his feet. Sanchez got a nice combo off with 90 seconds left in the round, but he was still in chase mode. Sanchez landed a right, and Curran slipped against the cage, but Sanchez couldn’t take further advantage. Then with 30 seconds left, he landed a key takedown to seal the round.
In the third, Curran spend much of the round controlling Sanchez on the canvas. Midway through, he was able to take Sanchez’s back briefly. But he lost the position going after a modified guillotine choke, and Sanchez had a chance at a Hail Mary. But Curran again got the fight to the ground and had 90 seconds left to work for a fight-ending choke. It never came, but Sanchez didn’t threaten, either, once he got back to his feet.
Curran (21-7 MMA, 11-4 BMMA) got back in the win column after losses to Patricio Freire, when he lost his featherweight title, and Daniel Weichel. Sanchez (10-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), a former Curran training partner, had a six-fight winning streak snapped.
