Main Event is a pretty formulaic show. Three or four matches with some backstage interviews and a few video packages. It's an easy hour of wrestling to digest after watchng Battleground and Raw on Sunday and Monday.
For some reason, the advertised match between Sheamus and Rusevdid not happen, and instead we saw Rusev battle Jack Swagger in a Battleground rematch.
That feud was continued, another was started, a new stable made its first impact and another match was short with no consequence. It was a relatively uneventful week, but the show did provide some decent entertainment.
Let's take a look at what went down on Main Event.
Seth Rollins vs. Fandango
This match was a bit of a mystery from the moment Fandango's music hit. Who are we supposed to cheer for? The dancing heel or the sellout heel?
Rollins controlled most of the match, finishing off Fandango with a Curb Stomp in just a few minutes. There was no appearance from Dean Ambrose and no distraction from Layla or Summer Rae.
Essentially, this was a squash match. It lasted longer than most squashes, but Fandango barely had any offense and the only purpose of this encounter was to establish Rollins as the dominant Superstar.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Jey Uso vs. Ryback
This was a fun little match. It lasted just the right amount of time and it helped show how Ryback has made some improvements in the ring.
Ryback picked up the victory with a Meat Hook clothesline instead of Shell Shocked. Uso did a good job of selling the finish, even if it was a bit sloppy.
It's pretty clear that RybAxel will be the next challengers for the Tag titles, probably at SummerSlam. I just hope it isn't relegated to thepre-show.
Winner: Ryback
Big E and Kofi Kingston vs. Slater and titus
We got our first look at this new stable being led by Xavier Woods in this match, and it was interesting, to say the least.
Kofi and Big E still had babyface reactions from the crowd, but it looked like they were going for more of a heel style. Woods' encouragement outside the ring only cemented that thought.
Kofi showed a lot more intensity than we have ever seen from him before and Big E played a pretty good monster. The way they took out both men with their finisher and then stacked them on top of each other for the pin certainly indicates their intention to dominate their competition.
Renee Young had interviews with Slater and Gator before and after the match. Titus made it pretty clear that he does not think this team is going to work, but Slater's enthusiasm makes me think it might keep going.
Winners: Big E and Kofi
Rusev vs. Jack Swagger
Not only is it shocking that WWE would have Rusev take his first loss by DQ, but it was shocking that the match happened on Main Event and not Raw or SmackDown.
The action was similar to what we saw from them at Battleground, but it was kind of cool to see Swagger come out on top.
Rusev did a good job of selling an injured ankle throughout the match, and the fact that he had to resort to dirty tactics made him look even more vulnerable.
I am very interested to see where this feud is going. I am sure WWEwill say Rusev has never been pinned or made to submit from now on since he was DQ'd.
Winner: Jack Swagger by DQ
