UFC 183 Nick Diaz vs Anderson Silva Complete Results

ufc 183As we go live, it's been revealed that Jimmy Hettes sustained a medical issue, and his fight with Diego Brandao is canceled.

Main Card
Jordan Mein (#13) vs. Thiago Alves
Round 1: Mein starts off with a nice leg kick as the two feel each other out. Mein starts landing at a distance at will. Alves comes back with a body kick, but Mein works his body with a huge left. Mein is up 14-3 in the head strikes category as he unleashes a huge flurry of big punches and elbows. This is the theme of the round.

Round 2: Mein ninja rolls off the cage, and Alves hits a huge right kick and a knee!!! He follows up with punches and ends the fight.

That's a huge comeback win for Thiago Alves. His first back-to-back wins since 2009.

Thales Leites (#11) vs. Tim Boetsch (#13)
Round 1: The two trade punches, and Boetsch gets poked in the eye. Leites cracks him with a big punch, but Boetsch counters. The two trade hooks again, but Leites is keeping his distance. Leites grabs the body lock and tries to take Boetsch down, but it's stifled. Boetsch drops Leites with a series of four big punches, but can't finish.

Round 2: Boetsch opens with a big overhand right, but gets caught in a body lock. Boetsch breaks out and lands another overhand right. Leites hits a knee and a big left hand punch. Boetsch drills Leites with several big punches, but gets taken down by a desperate Leites. Leites works an arm triangle and puts Boetsch to sleep.
Winner: Thales Leites (#11) defeats Tim Boetsch (#13) via technical submission (arm-triangle) Round 2, 3:45

- That's five wins in a row in the UFC for Leites. He's had a big career revival. He's criminally underrated and has a negative stigma associated with him after the Anderson Silva fight.
Joe Lauzon vs. Al Iaquinta
Round 1: Iaquinta starts off with a body shot, but Joe Lauzon lands with several flurries. Iaquinta is working from a distance. The two get in a heated exchange in which results in Iaqunita hitting good combos. Iaquinta scores a takedown, but Lauzon gets back up and eats a good combo and a head kick.

Round 2: Lauzon tries to work some punches in the clinch, but Iaquinta lands a 1-2-head kick combo. Iaquinta works his jab but gets clipped with a huge punch. Iaquinta drops Lauzon with a huge punch. Lauzon goes into zombie mode and eats about two dozen bigpunches. The ref steps in and ends the fight on the feet. Insane barrage.
Winner: Al Iaquinta defeats Joes Lauzon by TKO (strikes) Round 2, 3:34

- That was one of the most violent barrages of strikes in UFC history.
Tyron Woodley (#3) vs. Kelvin Gastelum (#7)
Round 1: Woodley goes at Gastelum with a head kick that is blocked. The two feel each other out for a couple of minutes until Woodley lands a decent right straight. After another period of inactivity, Woodley scores with another two punch combo, but Gastelum hits a leg kick.

Round 2: Gastelum misses a kick to start, but goes right back and gets eye poked. They take some time, and Woodley lands three huge punches that send Gastelum back a little bit. Woodley hits another big straight right hand, and he's really taking control. They work a little more, with Woodley landing a kick to the body

Round 3: Woodley quickly opens up a cut over Gastelum's left eye. Gastelum connects with a few good punches, but eats one of his own. Woodley follows up with a body kick, but Gastelum hits a solid knee to the body. Woodley is working on the cut over Gastelum's eye, but Kelvin is staying in it. The two won't commit to fighting inside, instead keeping a distance. The fight ends with both men swinging and not connecting.

- Close, uneventful fight. Gastelum's first loss, and he'll move up to 185 pounds now.
Anderson Silva (#1) vs. Nick Diaz
Round 1:Round 1: Daiz comes out with his hands down and throws a leg kick, which Anderson answers with one of his own. Diaz is talking trash and lays down in the middle of the cage. Then he turns his back on Silva and walks over to the cage. Silva connects with a punch and the two trade a shot each in the clinch. Diaz with another leg kick and a punch, followed by another combo. Silva fires a leg kick. Diaz eats a couple of punches, and taunts Silva. Silva hits a series of punches, but they work into a clinch, before breaking free.

Round 2: Silva starts out with a front kick to Diaz's knee. Silva goes for a spinning kick, misses, and goes back after the knee of Diaz. Nick Diaz hits a few good leg kick, but Silva comes back with his own. Silva stuffs a takedown, and comes up empty on a head kick. The two are working in the center of the cage, trading punches, until Silva comes up empty on an upward elbow. Silva hits a solid straight and a big body kick. They gets in a clinch and Diaz hits three big punches that don't do much to Silva.

Round 3: A Silva straight and leg kick opens the round. Silva hits another straight and a head kick as Diaz stands still and drops his hands. Silva is hitting several kicks to Diaz's knee and follows with good punches and a body kick. Diaz fires back with a series of leg kicks, but has his left eye busted open with jabs. Silva hits a big counter punch and another body kick, then follows with a leg kick and a missed spin kick. Diaz finally fights back with a body punch and a nice combo, but it's too little, too late.
Round 4: Diaz comes out with his body turning purple from Silva's kicks. Silva has shown throughout the bout that his leg injury is no longer a concern. Diaz with a couple of nice punches, and two solid leg kicks, but gets countered by Silva. Anderson Silva with three good right hands and a leg kick. Diaz gets inside and makes it messy in the clinch, connecting several times. Going in to the last 30 seconds, it's pretty even. Silva hits two leg kicks as the round closes.

Round 5: Diaz is taunting Silva as the round starts, but gets caught with a good combo. Silva is keeping his distance and landing the jab, but Diaz hits a few big punches. Silva comes back with a head kick. Diaz has worked over Silva in the clinch all night. Silva sticks Diaz with a good shot and Diaz blows his nose in the middle of the cage. Sick. Diaz and Silva trade leg kicks, with Diaz throwing a couple more than Silva. Diaz is backed up ti the cage with a combo, and Silva misses a flying knee and a spin kick. In the last minute, Diaz's cut really opens up, and Silva attacks it.

Silva is emotional in the cage, crying. He says he's going home to his kids, and won't commit to returning
