WWE Made the Right Call Having Dean Ambrose vs. John Cena on Raw

John Cena was originally scheduled to face Dean Ambrose at Hell in a Cell, where the victor would face Seth Rollins. The match would have a contract hanging from a pole. The wrestler must grab that contract to face Rollins later that night.

The October 13 episode of Raw changed that. Triple H announced that match happening as the main event of the evening.

And so it happened. Cena and Ambrose battled for that contract in an eventful main event. It was a no-holds-barred situation. Randy Orton craved the loser of the match, and Triple H delivered. Orton, Kane and Rollins himself interfered in the match, while Triple H and Stephanie McMahon viewed from ringside.

Cena cleared the ring, proving he is the WWE’s ultimate “superhero.” Surely he would be victorious, but he turned around and saw the one thing he didn’t want to witness.

Ambrose climbed the turnbuckle and reached for the contract. Ambrose spotted Cena, mocking him by utilizing Cena’s own “You Can’t See Me” taunt. Cena attempted to run, but it was too late. Distressed and dismayed, Cena witnessed Ambrose yank the contract. Hence, Ambrose will do battle against Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell.

Huge ramifications occurred. Two matches will take place because of that main event, with both matches the caliber of headlining Hell in a Cell. It also means one thing: WWE made the right call having John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose on Raw.

It made perfect sense to air this match on free television instead of the WWE Network. It gives their respective feuds time to breathe and presents fans reasons to watch come October 26.

Frankly, logic or any reason can’t justify why two good guys would duke it out just to have revenge against Mr. Money In The Bank. Yet, this main event had repercussions that will be considered for quite some time. In Ambrose’s case, it’s another shot at Rollins with nowhere to hide for the elusive Rollins. For John Cena, it’s rekindled old wounds against Orton.

the last time we felt a match on Raw
The main event featured Cena vying for the WWE Championship against then-champion CM Punk. Both fought in an electrifying contest culminating with Cena’s STF locked in on Punk.

Big Show interfered, causing the disqualification finish. The Rock came down to Cena’s aid and hit a spinebuster on Show. Rock tried to hit The People’s Elbow but was cut off by Punk. The champion hit the GTS on Rock, leaving in his wake a pile of bodies in the ring.

It was a powerful ending with huge ramifications. Cena used his Money in the Bank briefcase shot and failed, becoming the first man to do so. Punk started his heel turn and went on to hold the title for more than a year, which is ironically thanks to The Rock taking the title following the Royal Rumble.

That’s what main events can do on Raw. They can have a lasting effect on two wrestlers’ careers. We witnessed that happen on October 13.

Ambrose and Rollins will fight again, this time inside of a cell. Cena and Orton will also battle once more in a cell. Whichever match main events the night is up for debate.

Regardless, the WWE creative team made the right call having Dean Ambrose and John Cena face each other on Raw instead of Hell in a Cell.
