Chris Jericho recently returned to WWE, both on the company's European tour and on Friday Night SmackDown. Y2J brought his smile and charisma back to the company that made him a star, and his appearances were well-received by the WWE faithful.
But those appearances may not be enough for fans. The fact is that Jericho is one of the most popular Superstars in WWE history and right now, Vince McMahon's company could use him back in the fold.WWE needs Jericho at Survivor Series.
The big event is coming up on Sunday, November 23, and is promising to be one of the most important in recent memory. The reason for that is because of the main event and the stipulation attached to it.
That main event will see Team Cena vs. Team Authority in a struggle for control of WWE. John Cena will lead The Big Show, Erick Rowan,Ryback and Dolph Ziggler against Seth Rollins, Mark Henry, Rusev, Luke Harper and Kane. And if Team Cena wins, then The Authority is out of power.
That means Triple H and Stephanie McMahon will suddenly be on the outside looking in, as the company's top storyline for well over a year would come to a close.
Add to that Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt as the second headlining match of the night, and fans are surely in for what could be a very historic night full of drama and intensity. This is the kind of event that becomes very memorable for fans and one that could bring about big changes for the company.
And on a night like that, the best talents should be on hand if only to add to the drama of it all.
Enter Y2J, whose presence is always welcome to fans who appreciate the charisma and talent he brings to the table. Jericho is one of those Superstars who contributes despite who the top stars of the day may be or what the top angles are. Jericho can basically come in during any era and hit the ground running, giving fans their money's worth and always leaving them wanting more.
The main reason for that is due to the fact that Jericho has always historically had an issue with both Hunter and Stephanie. Y2J is one of those Superstars who never went with the norm, he always had a wild streak in him and an edge that essentially made him a rebel.
Indeed, of all the factions that have come and gone in WWE, Jericho never belonged to one of them. From D-Generation X to The Corporation to The nWo, Jericho always stayed true to himself. And with the exception of various tag team partners over the years, he never surrounded himself with any backup.
Jericho did it his way, and he took orders from no one.
So to imagine that he would have gone along with Triple H and The Authority seems like a huge stretch. The Authority basically represents everything that is wrong with WWE's corporate structure; it manipulates, it intimidates and it controls.
No one is safe from The Authority's reach, and the list of WWESuperstars that have been under fire is very extensive. The Big Show, The Rhodes family, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan are just a handful of talents that have been butting heads with Triple H for quite a while now. Had Jericho been on anything more than a wildly reduced schedule, he too would surely have been on that list. There's just no way he would have stood by and watched The Authority destroy everyone in its path.
But the question is, if Jericho did indeed make an appearance at Survivor Series, what would his role be? Some fans would likely love to see him perhaps conduct a special edition of The Highlight Reel or possibly even be the host for the evening. While both options would fit him, the truth is that he could be used in a much greater capacity.
Jericho could actually affect the end of the main event match between Team Cena and Team Authority. It would be a great way for him to once again thumb his nose at the McMahon family, and it could perhaps even lay the groundwork for a match between him and Triple H at some point down the road.
Of course, another great reason for Jericho to be at Survivor Series has little do with his history with WWE's ruling family and more to do with selling the product.
November is free for anyone who wants to check out the WWE Network. There is no obligation, and it's the perfect time for fans who may have been on the fence about subscribing to see what they've been missing. The company has obviously been heavily advertising the offer, using Survivor Series as a major selling point to draw fans in.
What better way to convince those undecided viewers that the network is worth their money than to throw in as many twists and turns as possible? Y2J could be part of that scenario. The following Monday Night Raw would undoubtedly be inundated with ample talk of the surprises from the night before and of just how badly fans need to subscribe. There would be no better way to ensure they do not miss another moment of action.
And above all of that, the fact is that Jericho is needed because of just how entertaining he is. In a company that is going without Bryan and Roman Reigns due to injury, as well as Randy Orton, who is out, and CM Punk, who is long gone, there is no better time to get the star power up. Jericho can help provide that star power.
His presence at Survivor Series could merely be in a supporting role or in a much larger one that would directly impact the future of WWE. And if that happens, then the company may truly never ever be the same again.
