Holly Holm (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is set for her second UFC fight and will meet fast-rising bantamweight Marion Reneau (6-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 71.
UFC officials today announced the bout.
UFC Fight Night 71 takes place July 15 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. The majority of the card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
The bout order, including the placement of Holm vs. Reneau, hasn’t been determined.
Holm, a former pro boxing champion who transitioned to MMA in 2011, recently made her long-awaited UFC debut and edged Raquel Pennington via split decision at UFC 184. The 33-year-old Team Jackson-Winkeljohn fighter and former Legacy FC champion, who went 33-2-3 as a pro boxer, didn’t help her title hopes with the narrow victory over heavy underdog Pennington, but she could get a big boost with a victory over Reneau.
Reneau, a 37-year-old Californian, has quickly made a name for herself in the UFC. Although UFC President Dana White told her she was too old to compete on “The Ultimate Fighter,” Reneau has proven him wrong with a decision victory over Alexis Dufresne and a submission upset of Jessica Andrade, which earned “Performance of the Night” honors. She’s now riding a five-fight winning streak.
