AJ Lee has only been Divas champ for less than a month. It feels too early to move the belt to Paige. Their story only recently got kick-started, when Paige attacked AJ on Raw, screaming, "This is my house!"
It's unclear who will challenge The Miz or Sheamus for their midcardbelts.
They may not even get a chance to lose them. No one defended the Intercontinental Championship at last year's SummerSlam or atSummerSlam 2011. The United States champ didn't take on challengers at the summer pay-per-view from 2007 to 2011.
Approaching beasts, Brock Lesnar and The Wyatt Family, have their sights set on other belts and have the best chance of giving fans the thrill of seeing new champs crowned.
The Tag Team Championship
The Usos keep holding off Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, but eventually the big bruisers will overpower them.
If WWE wanted The Wyatt Family to be just one of many challengers, it wouldn't keep having the duo colliding with Jimmy and Jey. LosMatadores had their title shot back in March. Ryback and Curtis Axel were one of three teams to challenge the twin brothers at WrestleMania XXX.
The Wyatt Family, meanwhile, have gotten multiple opportunities. Harper and Rowan continue to gnash their teeth at the tag champs, having battled them in two straight pay-per-view title matches.
They get closer and closer to yanking the titles from The Usos' grip each time. The Usos, even if they lose the titles at SummerSlam, have benefited greatly from their reign. It's allowed them to put on a number of standout bouts and look like valiant warriors in being able to fend off the bearded brutes each time.
Should WWE instead choose Stardust and Goldust as The Usos' challengers, that's likely to lead to a title change as well.
The spotlight has pointed at the bizarre brothers over the last few weeks in several backstage segments. It feels as if the company is trying to build up interest in Stardust and Goldust, to have the crowd engaged in their pursuit of the so-called "cosmic key."
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship
SummerSlam is set to be Lesnar's showcase.
He is coming off breaking Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania, doing what couldn't be done in 21 previous tries. That ultimate honor and momentum starter has to lead somewhere.
It would be a complete waste to have Lesnar's first match after toppling an immortal be a loss.
Lesnar failing now would lessen the significance of breaking Undertaker's streak. The win that Paul Heyman has been bragging about for months is not just another win—it's WWE's holy grail.
Cena doesn't need the world title to be a top star anyway. With as storied a career as he's had, WWE won't be worried about a loss to a snarling monster affecting him.He can't go 0-2 to Cena. He can't fail to win the world title.
If you keep having a man whom you portray as unstoppable be stopped, it lessens the power of his aura. Rather than weaken one of the roster's most destructive forces with another failure, look for WWEto have Lesnar become WWE champ for the fourth time.
He and The Usos' opponents are the safest bets on who will make their trip to Los Angeles a celebratory one.
