We're just two weeks away from the gates opening in Philly, and there's still only two matches that have been made official .
Royal Rumble
First, Roman Reigns came back from being sidelined following emergency hernia surgery and put himself in the 30-man field to determine who will main event WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, California against whoever holds the WWE belt. Then, Daniel Bryan shocked the world by entering the match when many were fearing a retirement announcement.
On the January 6th Main Event, Lana told us her charge, United States champ Rusev, will again participate in the match where he debuted on the main roster in 2014. Last night, on the last Smackdown before it moves to Thursday next week, Intercontinental champ Bad News Barrett joined his fellow mid-card title holder. And The Eater of Worlds told us that his next act after shutting Dean Ambrose in an ambulance would be to enter the Rumble.
The officially announced field for the 2015 Royal Rumble: Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, Rusev, Bad News Barrett and Bray Wyatt.
Despite being fired by The Authority on Monday, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback and Erick Rowan are all expected back by the 25th, and will most likely claim spots. Others getting digital ink on the dirt screens include Ambrose, Randy Orton and Big Show. Beyond that, expect some surprises, some mid-carders and maybe a debut or two.
Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins (WWE world heavyweight title)
The big news is that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon added Mr. Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins, and his briefcase containing a contract for another title shot, to the third match between the champ, Lesnar, and Cena since SummerSlam '14. Getting into what is now a triple threat is Rollins reward for manipulating the Ce-Nation leader into bringing The Authority back to power. We have not gotten a reaction to this news from Brock or his advocate Paul Heyman, but we have to imagine they're not thrilled that the Beast could conceivably lose his belt without being pinned or submitted.
And that's it.
With it unclear who else will be called into duty in the over-the-top rope battle royal that gives PPV its name, it's hard to predict what undercard matches will join these two. The only safe bet is probably a Divas title match, where champ Nikki Bella is currently beefing with Paige and Natalya. She could plausibly defend against either or both in a Total Divas-driven match.
