According to a report on last night's UFC Tonight episode, UFC, Strikeforce and military veteran Tim Kennedy isn't done with his MMA career just yet.
The last time we saw the now 35-year old in the Octagon was last September at UFC 178, where he suffered a TKO loss to Cuban wrestling standout Yoel Romero Palacio. The fight has been nothing short of controversial. Kennedy was close to a stoppage victory by the end of the second frame, but Romero's cornermen overran the one-minute break between rounds by nearly half a minute. A more or less recovered Romero then returned for round three and finished the frustrated Kennedy.
Obviously, the American Sergeant doesn't want to go out like that and feels the need for at least one more fight. The opponent he has in mind is former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. And if that didn't sound exciting enough, Kennedy would love to add a little stipulation: The loser of the fight has to leave the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Machida recently lost a number-one contender's bout to Luke Rockhold via submission at UFC on FOX 15 last weekend. Kennedy is currently gearing up for a journey to South Africa, where he will be chasing down war criminals for a new television show. A fight against Machida would perfectly fit into his schedule in fall then.
Machida's manager, Ed Soares, later told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani that he loved the fight and that his client didn't want to be the one to kick Kennedy out of the UFC.
