A lightweight bout between Kevin Lee (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and James Moontasri (8-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has joined July’s UFC Fight Night 71 lineup.
UFC officials today announced the bout.
UFC Fight Night 71 takes place July 15 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. The majority of the card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
It’s not clear where Lee vs. Moontasri will be placed on the card.
Lee, a fast-rising 22-year-old prospect, looks for his fourth consecutive UFC victory. After opening his career with a 7-0 record, the former NCAA Division II wrestler signed with the UFC in late 2013 and suffered a decision loss to Al Iaquinta in his promotional debut in early 2014. However, since then, Lee has picked up consecutive decision victories over Jesse Ronson, Jon Tuck and Michel Prazeres.
He now meets Moontasri, a former RFA fighter who signed with the UFC in 2014 and suffered a split-decision loss to Joe Ellenberger in his promotional debut. However, the German-born Californian and taekwondo vet rebounded in his most recent bout and scored a submission victory over Cody Pfister in February. It was his sixth stoppage in eight career wins.
With the addition, UFC Fight Night 71 now includes:
- Todd Duffee vs. Frank Mir
- Tony Ferguson vs. Josh Thomson
- Igor Araujo vs. Sean Strickland
- Manny Gamburyan vs. Scott Jorgensen
- Matt Dwyer vs. Alan Jouban
- Kevin Lee vs. James Moontasri
