Sean Spencer is going to have to wait a little longer to bounce back from being robbed by the judges in his most recent outing.
Spencer (12-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) was scheduled to face Mike Pyle (26-10-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at UFC 187. The bout was Spencer’s first fight back since losing a near-unanimously derided decision to Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night 59.However, an injury has knocked Spencer out of the bout, leaving the UFC looking for a new opponent for Pyle.
MMAjunkie today learned of the injury from sources close to the fighters. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorizes to publicly discuss such matters.UFC 187 takes place May 23 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The welterweight bout was scheduled to air on the prelims on UFC Fight Pass ahead of prelims on Fox Sports 1 and the main card on pay-per-view.
Pyle dropped his last fight, losing to Jordan Mein by first-round TKO. The loss was only his second in seven fights since 2012.There are no more details available at this time on the nature of Spencer’s injury or how long he is expected to be sidelined.
